An Interview with Cheryl Dapsauski, Owner.

Tell us your story. When you started, how, and why.

My first design business in Frederick County was Deerfield Design, which I named after my late grandfather’s printing business in Massachusetts. I had a photo in the Frederick News Post which was taken in the basement of my house at that time. Being the third in a generational line of print professionals, I knew from the examples of my father and grandfather that the way to delivering excellence was by working with each client as if they were the only client. In my early career I became the senior art director in an agency that specialized in retail advertising, and learned there how to run a productive creative studio and stay aligned with the changing tech.

From there I moved to the in-house agency sphere, which gave me insight into the workings of a larger enterprise. But, the yearning to get out and work with a diverse group of clients was still there, and I launched Concept C Marketing Design, LLC in 2007. As a veteran graphic designer in the media and advertising industries, I developed a deep understanding of marketing, graphic design and production which pushed me forward to operate as an independent contractor for most of 16 years, give or take a hiatus or two. I eventually changed the name to Dapsauski Design to refresh the brand and to connect my name to the reputable high quality graphic design service I provide.

What do you like most about being a business owner in Frederick?

Frederick is a vibrant and connected community, and there is so much opportunity to get to know the people you are doing business with.

Why did you join the Chamber?

The Frederick County Chamber has an inclusive energy as well as a unified drive to pull Frederick County ahead economically. It’s one of the best in the nation. It makes sense for my business to see what they can teach me or point me to that I wouldn’t know about otherwise.

How has being a member of the Chamber benefited your business?

The business community in Frederick has stability and longevity and connectivity. My Chamber connections have become long-lasting business friendships and that’s important with a relational business like mine. I can be more efficient in delivering design services because there are myriad opportunities for collaboration, found through the Chamber network.

What do you want your business to be known for?

Fresh and informed graphic design for the world we live in.

Share some of your community involvement efforts.

It is well-documented that Frederick County boasts the most generous and spirited community around. I’ve been fortunate to find an intersection between my professional activity and my volunteer time. I have served on boards and advisory committees of several local nonprofits in past years, including the American Advertising Federation of Greater Frederick and Daybreak Adult Daycare, which I joined at the age of 30.

Professionally, I’ve worked closely with Student Homeless Initiative Project (SHIP), The Alzheimer’s Association and City Youth Matrix. I served on The Walk To End Alzheimer’s volunteer committee and assisted two chapters for 10 years. In addition to working with nonprofits, I have served on a number of political campaign committees.
