Meet The Frederick Children’s Chorus

Frederick's Children's Chorus

The Frederick Children’s Chorus (FCC) is a non auditioned, all inclusive children’s chorus for ages 3-18 that provides music education and performance opportunities.

FCC was founded on the principal that any child, regardless of training or financial standing, should be able to become the best singer they can be and their mission, bringing children together for the joyful exploration and celebration of singing, drives everything that they do.

Making Frederick Children Sing for Over 35 Years

The Chorus was founded in 1985 to give children a place where they could gather to sing, learn to read music, and enjoy the company of other children who liked to sing. They grew from just 13 singers to over 200 in the late 90s, leveling off to the 100-150 that has been a comfortable size for the last several years.

For 37 years, The Frederick children’s Chorus has been raising more than voices.

Carrie Silver who serves as the Little Music Makers Coordinator for the Frederick Children’s Chorus had this to say, “We have been raising compassionate, caring, responsible citizens who go out into communities everywhere, and who share their love of music, their passion for literature, and their appreciation for art. And like a ripple in a pond from one drop of rain, our work spreads, our family grows, and something as simple as a song can create a world where we all love to go, to learn from each other, to blossom and grow. And all along the way, we sing.”

In a League of Their Own

The Frederick Children’s Chorus is the only non-church, non-school affiliated children’s chorus in Frederick!

“We focus on a high-quality level of learning, and once our singers reach 3rd grade, they begin musicianship classes in addition to their music rehearsals. Our singers focus on ear training, sight singing, notation and more. This is a critical part of our program as many students do not receive music classes in middle school, which means that our chorus bridges the gap between elementary music and the high school chorus and theater programs,” explained Silver.

And They’re Basically The Best

Not only does the chorus put on high-quality performances, they also offer a special support system for local kids.

“We want to be known for being a safe haven for kids who love music, but don’t have a tribe in their own schools. We want to be known as a fully inclusive environment where every single person is welcomed, encouraged and celebrated for their gifts and their hard work,” shared Silver. “We grow amazing people! It’s so much more than just a chorus. It’s a good-human development program. Our student outcome is positivity, collaboration, teamwork, encouragement, and confidence. Oh, and amazing music, of course!”
