Home Instagram Takeovers Meet Your Worthy Career

Your Worthy Career® is a career coaching and leadership development company for women in Pharma and Biotech who feel stuck or unfulfilled in their career despite strong performance, credentials, and experience.

We help high-achieving women get clear on their next best move, position themselves for new roles or promotions, and build the strategic visibility and leadership presence required to advance inside complex, matrixed organizations. This is insider guidance grounded in years inside talent and leadership conversations within industry—where advancement decisions are actually made combined with a background in organizational psychology and leadership development.

Through structured programs, private coaching, and science-informed tools, we teach women how to identify roles aligned with their strengths and impact, communicate their value in high-stakes environments, navigate pay band ceilings and promotion cycles, and grow into respected, influential leaders—without relying on performative tactics or abandoning their authentic selves.

Our work is built on a proprietary framework, The Your Worthy Career Method, and delivered through The Right Move Protocol™, a premium coaching experience that combines clarity, positioning strategy, and real-world application.

The result is not just a new title. It is a career that is meaningful, built with intention—where your expertise is visible, your influence is known, and your growth is in your control.

A conversation with Melissa Lawrence, Owner & Founder.

Tell us your business origin story!

Your Worthy Career® began long before it had a name.

I spent over 12 years inside Pharma and Biotech in talent development and leadership roles. I was in the rooms where performance was evaluated, succession plans were debated, and promotion decisions were made.

The women I met were capable, credentialed, high-performing. Many had advanced degrees. They delivered results consistently. And yet, when it came time for advancement, they were told they were “valued” but not “ready.” Or they were stretched without a title change. Or they were quietly labeled as not quite executive presence.

I was also one of these women. I had the great role on paper and worked for an enviable company, AstraZeneca. But I felt I could make a bigger impact and didn’t want to lose myself in corporate politics and societal norms.

I had been coaching within industry for many years before I formally pursued certification. Once it became apparent that my ideal role was coaching women B2C I made the leap and established my LLC in 2019.

I started coaching women privately while I was still in industry because I couldn’t unsee the gap. Women were internalizing stagnation as a personal failure when in reality, they were navigating unwritten rules no one had explained to them. They also have the ceilings that are imposed on us but that we also impose on ourselves with self-doubt and conditioning.

In 2020, I began working in my business full-time.

What began as 1:1 coaching evolved into The Right Move Protocol™, a structured, science-informed method that helps women get clear on their next move, reposition their experience, and navigate advancement strategically. Over time, I codified the work into what is now The Your Worthy Career Method™—a framework built from lived experience inside Pharma, formal training in workplace psychology, and years of coaching results.

I recently wrote a book that is publishing February 24th – Your Worthy Career: A Science-Backed Method to Build a Meaningful Career in Pharma and Biotech.

This business was never about helping someone get “a new job” for the sake of it. In fact, I often say I’m not your typical career coach. The work I do is much deeper.

It is about helping women stop waiting for recognition, understand how advancement decisions are actually made, and build careers that are meaningful to them.

Your Worthy Career® exists because I’ve sat on both sides of the table—and am uniquely positioned to help women who want to make a bigger difference in their work, truly see what they are capable of.

What do you like most about being located in Frederick County?

Frederick is one of the most unique communities I have been a part of. It is filled with small-businesses, innovative ideas, and unstoppable growth. I am originally from Wisconsin and Frederick has the midwest charm to it that reminds me of home. I have enjoyed getting to know many different business owners and truly love seeing how the network of businesses support each other in our community.

What makes Your Worthy Career unique?

What makes Your Worthy Career® unique is that it was built from inside the industry it serves—while directly addressing both the internal and external ceilings that stall advancement.

I’m not a generic career coach applying broad theory to corporate life. I spent over 12 years inside Pharma and Biotech. I know the gaps and the strengths, the unique advantages, and what it is like as a woman working in this space, because I am one.

My background in workplace psychology combined with industry-specific career strategy allows me to address both. We don’t just teach women how to position themselves externally. We help them dismantle the patterns that quietly cap their confidence, visibility, and self-advocacy. That is what makes growth sustainable long after our work together ends.

Most career support focuses on resumes or confidence in isolation. Our approach integrates what is rarely taught together: strategic clarity about your next move, credible positioning inside complex corporate systems, and leadership behavior that signals readiness for expanded scope—while strengthening the internal belief system that supports that level of growth.

We operate at a premium, high-touch level with small cohorts, direct access, structured frameworks, and measurable outcomes. Our clients are already high performers. They do not need encouragement. They need precision and growth that is authentic to them and allows them to use their unique talents and skills.

We also reject performative corporate tactics. We help women build influence and authority without compromising who they are. The outcome is not just a new title. It is the removal of the ceilings—internal and external—that once defined their limits.

What do you want Your Worthy Career to be known for?

I want Your Worthy Career® to be known for changing how advancement and success is defined for women in Pharma and Biotech.

Our mission is to expand access to meaningful, high-impact roles—not just help someone get promoted or get a new role, but help them move into positions where their expertise shapes decisions, strategy, and outcomes in industry.

I also wish more people understood that our work goes far beyond resumes or interview prep. We teach women how to navigate the real dynamics of complex organizations, advocate for their value, and remove both the structural and psychological barriers that limit advancement. This is long-term career architecture, not short-term career advice.

My clients often tell me our work improved their parenting, marriage, and mental health even if we never discussed those topics – because careers are so important to our identity and when we are unhappy or settling, that has a ripple effect to every other part of our lives. The skills and development my clients go through truly changes their perspective on themselves, others, and their overall approach to their careers.

Share some of your community involvement efforts!

Over the years I have supported Blessings in a Backpack, sponsored a capital region scientific network, contributed to Sass Magazine, and when I worked with AstraZeneca, was part of partnering with Women to Women Mentoring and offering interview prep for local high school students. My business also makes charitable donations annually to causes that support the equity of women and marginalized groups.

What do you do best?

I realized over the years that working closely with my clients is what yields the best results and experience. For my method to work best, personalized support to apply the method and tools to my client’s unique brain and situation is what makes this especially unique. I have entertained courses or other scalable offerings but it removes the connection that facilitates the meaningful growth my clients experience. For this reason, my services are premium and small-group or individual based. This level of support is something my clients often comment on.

With that said, I always wanted to write a book that would make my method and support more accessible. A resource I would want every woman in science or women entering or working in industry to have so they can see what is truly possible and have an actionable guide that works for the nuances of pharma careers. This dream is coming true with my new book release.
