Celebrating Small Business Saturday in Frederick County

Small Business Saturday is this Saturday, November 29, and it offers a meaningful opportunity to recognize the entrepreneurs, family enterprises, and local employers who shape daily life in Frederick County. The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce is proud to champion a business community built on hardworking owners who create jobs, cultivate unique experiences, and keep our local economy strong. More than 90% of our membership of over 1,000 businesses is made up of small businesses with fewer than fifty full time employees. Their impact is woven into every part of our county, from our bustling downtown streets to our rural corridors.

Small Business Saturday encourages residents to explore these businesses, discover new favorites, and support the people behind them. When you shop small, more of your dollars stay within Frederick County, circulating through wages, supply chains, and community investments. You help sustain independent shops, restaurants, service providers, and makers who enrich the character of our community. These businesses are often run by people who live here, volunteer here, and care deeply about the growth of our county.

Don’t want to wait until Saturday? No problem!

Unwrap the fun in Downtown Frederick on Frosty Friday. On Friday, November 28, downtown shops and eateries open early and stay open late. Parking is free and Downtown Frederick is filled with holiday cheer and decoration.

Frosty Friday highlights include an Early Bird Bag Giveaway at 30 N Market St at 9 a.m. where visitors can snag a free Frosty Friday tote bag filled with gifts from downtown businesses while supplies last. Live music and caroling take place around town from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Snowflake Tree at 30 N Market St from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. offers a free gift from under the tree when you show that you spent one hundred dollars between two or more downtown businesses while supplies last. Photos with Santa are available at 30 N Market St from 12 to 3 p.m. Visitors can enjoy marshmallow roasting around town from 4 to 9 p.m. and the Frosty Friday Cocktail Competition from 6 to 9 p.m. invites you to taste your way through downtown and vote for your favorite holiday cocktail.

Small Business Saturday is also a chance to reflect on the importance of choosing local throughout the entire holiday season. Every gift purchased from a neighborhood shop, every meal enjoyed at a locally owned restaurant, and every professional service booked with a Frederick County business strengthens our economic resilience. These decisions help small business owners plan for the future, open the door for new jobs, and maintain the vibrancy that makes our county such a welcoming place to live and work.

As we move into the holiday season, check back each week for different ways you can support small businesses and local nonprofits. From creative gift ideas to opportunities for giving back, these features will highlight the many ways our community can celebrate the season while uplifting the organizations that make Frederick County special.

If you own a small business and are not yet part of our Chamber community, we would love to connect with you! And if you are already a member, thank you for all you do to keep our local economy strong.
