Meet The Mental Health Association of Frederick County

The Mental Health Association of Frederick County builds a strong foundation of emotional wellness for the whole community by preparing resilient children, securing vulnerable families and standing with people to face crises together.

A conversation with Lanie Condor, Marketing Coordinator

Tell us MHA’s origin story.

The Mental Health Association of Frederick County (MHA) has served the community as a private, non-profit organization since 1965. The agency has grown and evolved continuously in the almost 60 years since our founding. We now offer 14 life-changing and life-saving programs to Frederick County and beyond.

What do you like most about being an organization located in Frederick County?

Frederick County is a tight knit but diverse business community that allows us to partner with lots of other nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals and ultimately helps us make our mental health resources more readily available.

What makes MHA unique?

Our programs truly support all demographics, we’re here for everyone. From prenatal to our elderly community members and everyone in between, we stay true to our mission.

What do you wish people knew about your organization?

MHA has 14 programs and services! Most people know about the 24-hour Call Center and the new 24/7 Walk-In Crisis Care Center, but we do so much more to prepare resilient children, secure vulnerable families, and stand with people to face crises together. Check out our website for more, but for a taste, our Child Care Choices program provides resources for child care providers and parents as well as puts on the Children’s Festival in downtown Frederick every year.

How can the community support you?

Your donations make all the difference in helping MHA build a community where children can grow and thrive without fear, where good mental health is valued, where people of all ages know when and how to seek help for emotional or family problems without shame, and where everyone will have access to mental health services without barriers.

What does MHA do best?

We make sure everyone who comes through our doors (physically or virtually) feels heard and supported. All of the work our staff does in each and every program may not be life-saving, but it is all life-changing.

Is there anything else exciting about MHA that you want the Chamber membership to know about?
