Dr Menocal and Menocal Family Practice have been providing affordable managed Primary Health Care in the Frederick Community for over 35 years.
Tell us your business origin story and what your business offers.
Dr. Menocal noticed that patients that were under insured or had no insurance at all didn’t have a place they could go to for equitable health care services. In 2006, he decided to start a practice that catered to patients with Medical Assistance, many of them children of undocumented immigrants. He also was on a mission to raise the vaccination rates of the children in the golden mile area.
Now we accept new patients at our Practice and take most commercial insurance plans including Medicare and Maryland Medicaid. We also welcome same-day visits for urgent needs, and offer school physical exams, preventive health care visits, and tend to geriatric patient healthcare needs and chronic disease management.
What do you like most about being a business in Frederick?
What we love about this community is that even though we have new people moving in and people leaving; the foundation of the history and legacy of the businesses and families that have built this community still thrive and stay strong to keep that heritage alive and to pass on its dynamic synergy to the incoming families and businesses.
What makes Menocal Family Practice unique and what do you want to be known for?
When a new baby arrives in the hospital and they are sent home, they are supposed to be seen within 5 days by a Physician. We make it a priority to see these babies even before they have their health insurance. We want to make sure they get their necessary vaccinations and care they need until their insurance is effective. Plus our hard work has helped to increase the children’s vaccination rate for the area from 13% to 58%.
In our eyes everyone is entitled to receive good quality health care regardless of their background, what kind of insurance they have or medical condition.
Please share with us some of your community involvement efforts.
Dr. Menocal donates diapers and formula to the moms at the Judy Centers in the local Elementary schools.
We are also part of the Team Hope organization along with Community Radiology where we provide FREE breast exams and mammogram screenings for early detection of breast cancer.
We have also partnered with United Way & Lyft to offer patients transportation to and from their doctor appointments at our offices through a Rideshare program.
What does Menocal Family Practice do best?
Because we are in a larger office setting in Frederick and have multiple locations, we can still provide a very welcoming and family-oriented environment with that one on one personalized care. We sometimes serve three or four generations of the same family. We welcome new additions to the world and ease elders into their golden years.
Is there anything else you would like the Chamber membership to know?
As busy as Dr. Menocal is, he still finds time to be President of the Frederick County Medical Society. Which is a perfect platform to speak with his medical peers and promote his passion for equal health care for all in the communities he serves.
