Tell us about Service Coordination, Inc. and what services you offer.

Service Coordination, Inc. (SCI) is a private nonprofit organization that is a recognized leader in Maryland’s person-centered quality case management services. SCI has been providing quality case management services since 1982. We began as one of the nation’s first independent case management initiatives serving older adults, those with disabilities, those with mental health diagnoses, those with medically complex needs, and others.

We believed then and maintain our belief now that services should be tailored to meet the individual’s preferences. SCI is also unique due to our community-based and technological capabilities, allowing us to work from anywhere in the community. SCI serves more than 14,500 people across the state of Maryland, including 14 counties and Baltimore City. SCI is also accredited based on The Standards for Excellence Institute®, which promotes the highest standards for ethics, effectiveness, and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations.

How did Service Coordination, Inc. get it’s start?

In 1982, The Arc of Frederick County established one of the nation’s first independent service coordination initiatives serving people. The service coordination division was founded on the belief that people with disabilities could benefit from having service coordinators act as brokers within the service delivery system to help ensure that services were tailored to meet people’s needs. In 2005, Service Coordination, Inc. (SCI) was established as an independent, nonprofit organization and spun off from the Arc of Frederick County due to the tremendous growth the agency experienced and the need to have one organization focused on providing service coordination for so many people. Since 1982, SCI’s mission has been to provide quality case management services by helping people understand their choices and connecting them to resources in their communities in ways that respect their dignity and rights. Today as one of the nation’s first independent case management initiatives serving older adults, those with disabilities, those with mental health diagnoses, those with medically complex needs, and others, we continue to fight for our vision to ensure people are valued in and by their communities.
