Meet The Common Market

The Common Market Co-op started in 1974 as a buying club for Frederick residents who wanted better access to local food. The current location on Buckeystown Pike opened in 2006 and their second location was built and opened, despite a pandemic, in September 2020.

Today, the Common Market provides natural, organic, local, and unique products to owners and customers.

Meet The Common Market

The Vision

The Common Market operates as a member-owned cooperative serving the Frederick area with high-quality natural foods, health products, and household supplies.

We seek to responsibly serve the community through its products and by offering a path to a sustainable, healthful future through its structure, policies, practices, and shared values.

We are also a community of likeminded owners and customers; we offer educational classes, and actively support local non-profits, as well as, area small businesses.

The Impact

Common Market is the only locally owned grocery store in Frederick. When you buy local about 2/3 of your total spend stays in the region, rather than supporting far off shareholders and business owners.

You don’t have to be an owner to shop at the Common Market, but your ownership helps us to support 165 farms and local businesses within a 150 mile radius of Frederick.

The Community

The community support and partnership in Frederick is second to none and we love living and working in Frederick alongside our customers.

Common Market is proud to support many local non-profits, selected quarterly by our owners, through our Bring-A-Bag program.

Our board and staff have enjoyed sponsoring the North Frederick Elementary School garden for the past year, and we spearhead a wide array of recycling initiatives throughout the year.
