Meet Maryland Ensemble Theatre

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is a nonprofit professional theatre, dedicated to the creation and production of extraordinary theatre art.

MET has something to excite all audiences, whether they’re looking for biting satire and raw drama on the Mainstage, wholesome and fun theatre for young audiences from The FUN Company, or side-splitting improv at MET Comedy Night.

Offering camps and classes for all ages, MET is the place to be for Frederick theatre lovers.

Meet Maryland Ensemble Theatre

The History of MET

MET first produced main-stage theatre in 1997, however, the group first performed together with the creation of The Comedy Pigs sketch comedy/improv troupe that first performed in April of 1993.

Our group began teaching classes in Acting and Improvisation in 1995, piloted our main-stage program with the Ensemble creation Finally Heard! Heroines of an Uncivil War in the summer of 1997, and opened our first theatre space and a full season of plays in June of 1998.

Since then we have grown into an ensemble of 30 working actors, directors and artists with two theatre spaces, an theatre education program and so much more!

A Unique Theater Company in Frederick

We are fully contained theatre in the arts district. We offer a wide array of programing from adult theatre, to children’s theatre to improv all produced in-house.

Sets are built on-site, rehearsals, classes and shows are held in our space and our programming is driven by our ensemble.

Not only is MET the place to find quality, though-provoking theatre in Frederick, but we offer a wide-array of classes and after-school programming. Generations of artists have learned from MET.

The MET and The Pandemic

We have an incredibly supportive community here in Frederick. Our ability to produce traditional theatre was severely impacted by the pandemic, but our audiences signed on to take part in our virtual programming and helped to support us and ensure that we would have a theatre to come back to once it was safe to reopen.
