Women Owned Businesses in Frederick: Meet Dublin Roasters

In celebration of S.H.E. Week Frederick, 2020, each day we are highlighting a woman owned Frederick business. They will be taking over our Instagram and sharing their story here on our blog.

Each of these businesses show strength, heart, resiliency and proof that women deserve equal footing in our business sector for the hand work, creativity and passion they bring to their industries, our community and the world!

We hope you’ll take some time to read about them, support them on social media, and support their businesses when you get a chance.

Women Owned Businesses in Frederick: Meet Dublin Roasters

The Dublin Roasters Story

I live in Frederick, and use to be a Frederick City K-9 Officer, Coffee Roasting was a hobby that evolved into my career. This year, Dublin is celebrating its 20th year in Business.
I fell in love with coffee roasting because of all of the senses, sounds and methods that go into roasting a coffee bean. It was a way to relax and wind down from a busy Police shift.I will say that feeling has never changed, it still is a relaxing process for me.  During the pandemic, as we all went inward, I had coffee roasting as my place of solace.

Being a Business Owner in Frederick

I love owning a business in Frederick because of the Community interaction.  Other businesses, and our customers co-mingle and have been an amazing support to us before and during the COVID pandemic.  Shared ideas, co-marketing, and the constant love of being entrepreneurs is what fuels all of our easy going nature towards one another.  Other communities see competition, we seem to see the bigger picture of keeping Frederick Strong.

Being a Woman Owned Business

I happen to be in a very male dominated field with regard to Coffee Roasting. I travel to many coffee producing countries, mostly in South America.
This for sure is a challenge at times, because the culture doesn’t have the same openness with Women in Coffee leadership roles. However, even that is changing over the past decade. I have visited more family farms that are run by women – more cooperatives entrusted to the management style of women.
Here in Frederick, and the surrounding area, I also see so many businesses that are co-owned, men and women, or the partner or spouse are also so involved in the family business that it truly is tipping in the scale of being women owned. I don’t have statistics to back this up at all, but when I look at the different vendors I purchase or roast for, I would say 80% of them are women owned businesses.
I feel like others have paved the way for current women owned businesses, it wasn’t always an easy road for some.
Just like I can say, it was a challenge to be the first female K-9 police officer in Frederick.  I would like to think that it became a bit more common for the next women to have a K-9.

What Makes Dublin Roasters Unique

Dublin roasts their own coffee in house and we are a roastery, bakery, and cafe in one. And, no part of the coffee process is wasted – we are a 100% compost and recycle facility.

Also, the relationships I have with the growers I work with and their families is super important to me. I personally travel to their farms to buy their product each year and purchase their beans at fair trade pricing. I want to give farmers the best pay for their product and also help boost the economy.

Try Dublin Roasters Coffee for yourself or gift it to a friend. Stop by their cafe window and grab a cup or a treat, or send someone special the gift of great coffee via their online store.
