ThorpeWood 5K/10K Trail Event

Our 12th Annual 5K/10K Trail Event is one month from today! As always we are so excited to be hosting this awesome event on ThorpeWood’s beautiful property on Catoctin Mountain! If you haven’t participated in this Run/Walk, then this is the year…right? The trails are beautiful and the event is for all ages and running/walking ability! Leashed dogs are welcome as well. Sign up is easy, just click on the box below and follow the instructions to register. Everyone will receive a t-shirt! Register by September 1 to take advantage of a discounted registration fee! Mathematics Education Lecture

Dr. Robert Q. Berry III, president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, will speak about equity issues that impact education. He will share his extensive research to provide insight on understanding black children’s mathematics experiences, including their mathematical identities and student agency. Additionally, he will share equitable teaching and learning practices that can be applied to the classroom to support students.

In most organizations, the LTV (Lifetime Value of an Employee) is directly related to the net profitability of a company. EVERY organization wants to increase it’s net profits. Sometimes the things we take for granted, or simply view as “must haves”, are overlooked. This educational workshop with discuss how any size company can better use a 401(k) plan to increase it’s net profits, using the simple concepts of People, Process, and Purpose.

Presenter:  

Brett Kraimer of McCaskill Financial is a Registered Investment Advisor, and previous President of Benexx, a 401(k) Plan Administrator. Under Brett’s leadership, Benexx began administering 401(k) plans in 2004, and was acquired by CBIZ, a publicly traded company, in 2010. When the company was acquired, the company was administering over 600 401(k) plans across the country. Since the acquisition, Brett has remained very active in the 401(k) industry as both an Advisor to 401(k) Plans and an advocate for higher levels of plan participant education. Brett has spoken on this topic to audiences large and small, including SHRM, CPA associations, the CBIZ national sales leader conference, and the American National Top Producers Conference.

Hone that one minute speech about you and your business and come join us!  Be sure to make your menu selection when registering for the event.  This event will start promptly at 11:30 a.m. so be sure to arrive a few moments early to check in at the registration table for your name badge and table assignment.

About our host venue:  Maxwell’s Kitchen
Maxwell’s Kitchen, a fast casual restaurant (order at the counter type place) located in historic downtown Frederick MD, is the baby brother of the Wine Kitchen on the Creek.  With a menu inspired by some of our favorite meals and a focus on bold flavors, fresh ingredients and creativity, we are the place for a casual lunch gathering or to stop by and pick up dinner on your way home. We are vegetarian and vegan friendly but have plenty of omnivore options like a great Angus beef cheeseburger.

Carefully sourced ingredients and beverages like organic fountain soda, local craft beer and wine make us the fun place catch-up up with friends.

All of the menu is available for dine in or carry out.

How to Handle HR When You Don’t Have an HR Department

For many organizations, it doesn’t make sense to hire a full-time HR person or department until you have more than 50 or 100 employees. However, all organizations have HR responsibilities after just their first hire. In this session, we’ll talk about some common HR functions and how you can best address them even if you don’t have an HR department.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Amanda Haddaway is the managing director and lead consultant and trainer for HR Answerbox, a boutique consultancy focused on solving the people problems that business owners, executives and managers face on a daily basis. Amanda has nearly 40,000 hours of experience in human resources. She specializes in resolving difficult employee relations situations, designing and facilitating interactive training solutions and advising small businesses on how to effectively manage their human capital. She holds the two highest professional certifications in human resources, SPHR and SHRM-SCP, as well as a Master of Jurisprudence degree in Labor and Employment Law from Tulane University Law School, a Master’s degree from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University. Amanda is a national speaker and a published author of two books and numerous articles. She serves as the director for the Maryland SHRM State Council and the chairperson for the Frederick County Workforce Development Board. She is an adjunct instructor at Montgomery College and a trainer for the Society for Human Resource Management.

Alive @ Five’s 2019 season will feature 21 rockin’ events, every Thursday (except July 4th) from May 9 through October 3! Enjoy happy hour + live music on Carroll Creek in Downtown Frederick. Admission is $5, all events are 21+ ONLY and take place from 5-8pm.
