Things to Do in Frederick: December 7, 2019
It’s a Wonderful Life Film Event
4TH ANNUAL FILM EVENT, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE The Weinberg Center for the Arts Saturday, December 7 Showtimes at 3pm and 7pm FREE, but tickets must be reserved in advance www.weinbergcenter.org Kick-off the holiday season on Downtown Frederick’s First Saturday with a holiday classic that reflects a town similar to Frederick: tightknit, generous, and community-oriented. By screening this classic film every year, The Religious Coalition is able to share its mission of community benevolence and togetherness, as well as educate the public about year-round services provided by the Coalition. Last year, both showings were sold out, with each seating approximately 1,000 people.
Candlelight House Tour
This self-guided tour takes visitors inside private homes elaborately adorned with holiday décor in historic Frederick on the first weekend in December. Visitors are delighted with the architectural nuances, holiday decorations and historical significance of these magnificent homes.
14th Annual Holiday Gifts & Greens Sale
The 14th Annual Holiday Gifts & Greens Sale will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be fresh-cut Frederick County greens, live holiday plants, decorated table-top trees, wreaths, swags, centerpieces & gifts for all occasions. There will be a raffle with multiple winners. NEW this year, Crafters & Artisans with handcrafted items for sale.
Lunch is served Thursday & Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday food will be available 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. after 4 p.m. beer and wine.

Brunswick Holiday Parade
Parade route is up East Potomac Street to Square Corner Park. Meet and greet with Santa and Tree Lighting to follow the parade.
Christmas in New Market
Bands! Floats! Singing! Start your Holiday Season with New Market’s annual Christmas Parade. Right in New Market’s charming Historic District, come to see the parade in the morning and stay for the day to visit shops, try some wonderful restaurants, visit Santa Claus, and even bid on a fully decorated Christmas tree!
The parade is just the beginning of a fun day—things will be happening up and down festively decorated Main Street as well.
Holiday Arts and Crafts Expo
Shop for unique art, hand-made jewelry, photography, wood and metal work, textiles, and design accessories while supporting local artists!
Super Secret Elf Workshop available for children from 3pm – 5pm.
Holidays on the Farm

Scavenger Hunt with Surelocked In Escape Games

Holidays at Hood Celebrates Diverse Traditions of December
Hood College will celebrate the season with a free “Holidays at Hood” program, which will celebrate the diverse traditions of December, including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, and Christmas, with readings and music for each of the holidays. Student ensembles, faculty and guest musicians will perform, and the audience will be invited to join on a carol sing-along and Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus. The program is sponsored by the Dean of the Chapel and the Department of Music and is free and open to the public.
Beer and Sensory Training
Beer sensory breaks down how beer interacts with all five of our senses, compares beer and wine and gives tips on storing, aging and cooking with beer. Additional topics include: The five senses of beer – Taste vs. smell – The importance of glassware – How cellaring can improve some beers. This class will end with a guided tasting of classic food and beer pairings.
Everything Old is New Again

The Nightmare Before Christmas Pop Up Party
Flying Dog and Tenth Ward Distilling Company are doing it again! Join us at New Spires Art on Friday the 13th for a blown out Nightmare Before Christmas Pop Up Party. Tickets available for $20 per person ahead of time or $22 at the door.
Legislative Breakfast
The 2020 Legislative Session will be kicking off in Annapolis soon and you’ll have a front row seat to what our Frederick County legislators have planned. Before the panel discussion, each legislator will have time to give you a synopsis of what their priorities in this session will be. The panel will focus on items that are of interest to business owners in Frederick County and the Chamber invites you to submit your questions or ask them at the event.
If you do not wish to pose your question at the event, please email Christy Butler, cbutler@frederickchamber.org, and your question will be posed anonymously by the Public Policy Committee.
A full buffet breakfast will be served prior to the panel discussion.
Kris Kringle Procession
Celebrate Old World Holiday magic with this walking procession featuring German/English characters of yesteryear. The procession concludes at the Baker Park Band Shell for a closing ceremony and lighting of the City Christmas tree and a concert of the Carillon Bells performed by City Carillonneur John Widmann.

Museums by Candlelight: Holiday Crèche Exhibit
This annual exhibit is a tradition at Hood, which began when Beulah Munshower Sommer, Class of 1944, donated a portion of her extensive crèche collection to the College. She began collecting nativity scenes as a child and continued collecting them throughout her adult life as a world traveler. Annual Holiday Open House
December is around the corner and ThorpeWood and Mountain Memories have a few fun events to share with you! Come for the first time, or the 10th time! Either way the afternoon and evening promises to get you into the holiday spirit!! We have found a wonderful local tree farm and will pick up our tree on December 7 and decorate all week leading up to the Open House! As in past years Todd Walker will be coordinating our musicians throughout the evening. We’ll send a schedule once finalized! Santa will visit around 5p! There will be a children’s corner as in past years with a few crafts to make, including making Reindeer Food! Silly Station Photo Booth is an addition this year and we are excited to see some of your funny photos! Kelly Hahn will be available for family portraits at our tree too…for a small fee! Gingerbread House Workshop
Hometown Harvest Kitchen will be hosting a Gingerbread House Building Workshop. We will have a section of the dining set up to build your very own gingerbread house. Mrs. Claus will even be making an appearance to share her years of gingerbread architecture. Any of the ingredients and supplies you need will be provided to all participants to build an edible gingerbread house. Bring your family and friends for a great night filled with festive fun.
Holiday Santa Visit & Toys for Tots
Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, enjoy live holiday music, strolling Victorian carolers, and free games with prizes for the kids. Pay it forward by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

Tis the season for the Annual Holiday Variety Show and Christmas Pageant at St. Everybody’s Non-Denominational Universalist Church! But what’s this? None of the acts scheduled have arrived?!? Festive, funny, and physical, this delightfully twisted and unhinged trip through our favorite holiday traditions will ensure an experience like no other. Festival of Trees

Experience the historic 1820 residence transformed for the season with twinkling lights, wreaths and trees decorated by local individuals, businesses and nonprofits. Vote for your favorite!
Festival of Trees is open Wednesday-Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1-4pm. Holiday Admission is $4 and tickets vote for your favorite are $1.
