Justin Saltzman Talks Leadership: Two Qualities Every Good Leader Needs

Each year over 40 local professionals from across industries and professional backgrounds unite in a unique nine-month exploration of community leadership spearheaded by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce called Leadership Frederick County.

For over 30 years, LFC has produced groups of creative, connected and compassionate leaders who exponentially strengthen our overall business community through both leadership skills and through the vast network of like-minded leaders with whom to partner and mutually support.

This is the final article in a four-part series by the Chamber of Commerce on leadership as envisioned by some of our Leadership Frederick County graduates.

Justin Saltzman Talks Leadership: Two Qualities Every Good Leader Needs

Justin Saltzman, LFC class of 2014, is a sales associate with Verita Real Estate. He carefully prospects new developers and businesses, creates proposals and makes presentations to new business owners.  He is instrumental in negotiating strategic partnerships with new developers, as well as project managers and related agencies.

The life-long resident of Frederick County and graduate of Frederick Community College has been an active member of The Rotary Club of Frederick for seven years.  He served as Sergeant at Arms (a function which he graciously served for one year) and in 2014 was selected as one of thirty young professionals country-wide to attend a summit in Chicago.

As Justin describes, every business, person and situation is different and it’s important that you adapt your methods to accommodate these discrepancies. As a leader, he says, it’s your job to give your employees or students the specific leadership style they need to be successful. When you see something working, great! If it doesn’t, head back to the drawing board, because leaders accommodate and perfect and while that isn’t an easy job, it’s what separates leaders from followers.

Adjusting your leadership role will benefit you and your employees long term, and like Justin said, the reward is watching all your hard work pay off and seeing the people you work with flourish under your guidance.

To Justin, the most important qualities for leaders to have is to be good listeners and to have the ability to inspire others to discover their own bests. They listen, guide, equip, support, and motivate people in order to achieve common and personal goals.
