Tell us your business origin story!
The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland was established in 1922 to promote honesty, transparency, and fairness in the marketplace. We began as a small group of business leaders who wanted to protect consumers and recognize companies that do business the right way. More than a century later, we continue that mission, helping businesses build trust and empowering consumers to make confident choices.

We wish more people knew how much heart is behind what we do. The BBB isn’t just about the seal, it’s about real people who care deeply about helping businesses and consumers build lasting trust. We love connecting with our community, answering questions, celebrating good business practices, and being a resource people can rely on. At the end of the day, we’re here to make the experience of doing business and being a customer more positive, transparent, and built on trust.
How can the community support you?
The best way the community can support the BBB of Greater Maryland is by taking advantage of the resources we offer and joining us at our local events. What do you do best?
What we do best at the BBB of Greater Maryland is help people and businesses connect in meaningful, ethical ways. We’re known for being a go-to resource, whether that’s helping consumers make confident choices, giving businesses tools to grow responsibly, or creating opportunities for our community to learn and collaborate. And what I personally think we do best is education, we’re out in the community helping vulnerable populations protect themselves and make informed decisions.
Do you have anything else you’d like the Chamber membership to know about?
It’s been an exciting time at the BBB of Greater Maryland! We recently wrapped up our 2025 Torch Awards for Ethics, where we celebrated outstanding businesses that lead with integrity and make a real impact in our community. Looking ahead, we have several educational seminars and local events planned to help consumers stay informed and support businesses in continuing to grow responsibly. You’ll also see us out in the community, and on the news, sharing resources and tips to keep Maryland’s marketplace strong and connected.
