More Than a Mission: A Recap of Frederick’s Nonprofit Awareness Campaign

The Frederick Nonprofit Alliance, a committee of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, recently kicked off a three-week social media initiative to highlight the vital role nonprofits play in Frederick County’s economy. Building on findings from a countywide survey analyzed by Data Driven Frederick (access the findings here) the campaign shines a light on the sector’s impressive contributions—not just in mission-driven services, but also in employment, volunteerism, and overall economic impact.

Through coordinated weekly themes, participating nonprofits shared data points, success stories, and visuals to emphasize a shared message: nonprofits are essential to the health, stability, and growth of our community. The campaign encouraged

organizations to post graphics, use the unifying phrase “More than a mission,” and tag the Chamber to maximize reach and engagement.

Week 1 (July 27–August 2) showcased the sector’s $1.03 billion total economic impact, demonstrating how nonprofit work ripples through our economy from direct services to job creation.

Week 2 (August 3–9) highlighted the 5,235 jobs sustained by local nonprofits, underscoring the sector’s importance as a major employer in Frederick County.

Week 3 (August 10–16) celebrated the $42 million value of volunteer contributions, recognizing the individuals whose time and talent keep vital programs running.

This collaborative effort not only amplified each organization’s voice but also united the community around a powerful truth: Frederick County nonprofits are more than a mission—they are a driving force behind our region’s economic and social wellbeing.
