Stephanie Carillo
The Safe Ride Foundation

With 1.5 years at the Safe Ride Foundation and a total of three years in the nonprofit world, Stephanie Carrillo has already made a meaningful impact on the Frederick community. Previously with the Golden Mile Alliance, Stephanie has built her career around connection, safety, and service. In her own words, her work is about bringing the community together—to help people live safer, stronger lives.

Stephanie sees her role not just as a job, but as a mission driven by community collaboration. At Safe Ride, she’s proud to have earned a seat at the table, where she can share ideas and help shape the organization’s path forward. For her, creativity isn’t just a bonus—it’s essential. And even when not every idea takes off, the chance to innovate and influence lasting change is what fuels her.

What keeps her inspired? The ability to create an impact that goes beyond today—an impact that can ripple into the future. She thrives in the shared spirit of purpose that defines the nonprofit sector, especially here in Frederick. The camaraderie among organizations, the shared drive to uplift others, and the deep-rooted belief in service all make her work more than a career—it’s a calling.

For Stephanie, it all comes back to connection: connecting people, ideas, and resources to build a safer, more supportive community. And it’s that commitment that continues to shape both her journey and the community she serves.

“For her entire tenure with our organization, Stephanie’s dedication, compassion, and leadership have been more than invaluable to The Safe Ride Foundation. Her contributions go far beyond her role, positively impacting our team and the Frederick community. She exemplifies the values we hold dear and truly embodies the spirit of service and innovation.”

Brenda Bell
The Frederick Rescue Mission, Inc

For more than four decades, Brenda Bell has been a guiding light to Frederick’s homeless community. Since she first volunteered at the Cold Weather Shelter in 1981 through All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Brenda has shown tireless dedication to meeting people where they are—with compassion, dignity, and grace. As the Rescued Treasures Coordinator at the Frederick Rescue Mission, she ensures individuals and families receive clothing and essentials, but her impact stretches far beyond. Brenda knows many of Frederick’s unhoused residents by name. She checks on them regularly, brings them supplies, and connects them with vital resources—even offering her personal cell number so no one feels alone. Brenda builds trust where it’s hardest to earn, and her presence is a lifeline to many. A colleague called her a “guardian angel” to those experiencing homelessness—and it’s a title she’s earned every single day.

“Brenda is unintimidated by people in need. She jumps right in, mobilized to help, and she is effective because she has earned their trust and built relationships. Brenda is an authentic doer of God’s word. As Matthew 25:31-46 says, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
