Outdoor Solutions, originally founded as Barrick & Sons in 1989, has grown into the area’s largest and most trusted outdoor living specialist. What began as a small family-owned business has evolved over the years alongside the community’s growth, becoming a recognized leader in custom outdoor spaces. Now known as Outdoor Solutions, the company is a testament to the vision and dedication that has shaped it into the premier name in the industry.
The company’s journey has been shaped by its passion for transforming outdoor spaces into beautiful, functional areas where families can gather and enjoy the outdoors. “We truly have a passion for creating next-level outdoor spaces,” says Nicholas Toms, President of Outdoor Solutions. Toms, who has been with the company for over 20 years, worked his way up through the ranks. His commitment and expertise helped him transition from a dedicated employee to the company’s owner, continuing the legacy of quality and craftsmanship that started with the Barricks.

We are truly fortunate to be part of such an amazing community here in Frederick. The sense of togetherness and willingness to support one another is something that continually inspires us. Working in this community has been incredibly rewarding; it’s a place where relationships are built on trust and care, and there’s always a shared commitment to making things better for everyone. Why did you join the Chamber?
We joined the Frederick Chamber of Commerce to actively support and give back to our local community. By being part of the Chamber, we can help strengthen the local economy, contribute to community initiatives, and build meaningful relationships with other businesses dedicated to the same cause. We are actively involved with organizations such as the Frederick Rotary, the Mental Health Association, Downtown Partnership, and the Phoenix Foundation of Maryland, as well as local schools, dance studios, and athletic teams. Whether through financial contributions or hands-on volunteer opportunities, we deeply enjoy giving back and being part of the positive change happening in our community
