A Conversation with Matt South, Community Relations Officer
Tell us your business or organization origin story!
The first meeting of the Middletown Savings Bank was held on November 12, 1907. Since officially opening in 1908, the Bank has been a cornerstone for customers’ financial planning, residents and businesses alike. In 1937, Middletown Savings Bank bought out the failing Valley Bank and moved across the street into the present-day Main Office location. At a Board of Directors meeting held on August 20, 1965, it was decided to change the name from Middletown Savings Bank to Middletown Valley Bank.
What do you like most about being a business or organization located in Frederick County?
Frederick County is an incredible place to live and work. It is full of thriving and welcoming communities, and there are endless entertainment opportunities – from outdoor adventures to Frederick’s downtown filled with shops, restaurants, and museums.
What makes your business or organization unique?
Middletown Valley Bank embodies the community banking experience, developing lasting relationships while promoting a culture of excellence in every interaction.
What do you want your business or organization to be known for, or what do you wish people knew about your business or organization?
We are strongly committed to our communities and want to see them succeed. We see banking as a lot more than the products and services offered.
Share some of your community involvement efforts!
Employees volunteered over 3,000 hours in our communities in 2023, and we expect to match or exceed that number in 2024. These volunteer hours involved teaching financial literacy, planting trees, cleaning up parks and non-profit sits, participating in days of caring, and much more. We also financially supported 199 organizations in our footprint in 2023 and have several employees who sit on local non-profit boards, as we believe giving back to our communities should be a holistic effort.
What do you do best?
We deliver Absolutely Exceptional Experiences. It is our mission to advance financial journeys through one conversation, one connection, and one community at a time.
Is there anything else exciting about your business that you want the Chamber membership to know about?
We just opened our Market Street Branch in Frederick on October 1st, offering teller services, account opening services, foreign currency ordering and exchanging, consumer lending and mortgage products, commercial lending, business cash management, and more.
Also, our boat, Resilience, with Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP) will be returning to Carroll Creek on November 23rd.
