A conversation with Sandra Hofmeister, Owner & Roofing Queen.
Tell us your business origin story.
Sandra’s journey started in Lima, Peru. Her mother was Peruvian, and her father was a Spaniard diplomat and a civil engineer. Sandra’s father was her hero, and as she watched him construct buildings and plan infrastructures, she didn’t think there was anything he could not do. He taught her that if she remained honest, reliable, and delivered only her best work, she would grow, and so would the community around her.
Sandra studied, graduated college, and became an accountant, accomplishing essential goals in the private sector. Then, moved to Florida in 2006 and continued to work in accounting. But in 2010, she needed a change, so she moved to Frederick, MD, and started in construction, a field she had never dared to dream about before. She dove in heart-first and never looked back.
As her career evolved, Sandra began surveying homes. She saw first-hand the effects of poor-quality workmanship, “cut corners,” and incomplete projects that left homeowners devastated by her predecessors’ work. Some clients had poor experiences with previous contractors, and Sandra wanted to ensure that we exceeded their expectations. She advocated for better materials and experienced labor, implementing a process that improved quality and service. She earned a reputation for expecting superior work with a keen eye and a passion for her trade. A group of contractors who felt the same approached her and said they would follow her anywhere. That is how A&S Construction was born.
What do you like most about being a business located in Frederick County?
What I like most about being a business owner in Frederick is the community and how we collaborate together. There are a lot of great people around willing to help and connect you with others. This is a great place for business!
What makes your A & S Construction unique?
I am the only bilingual female licensed General contractor in Frederick with my heritage and background. I may be small in stature, but my clients, team, and community know me for my big expectations when it comes to honesty, reliability, and quality output. And I’m not just a leader, but an undisputed EXPERT in my field. As a dedicated wife and businesswoman, I am focused on providing my clients with quality service they can trust.
What do you want A & S Construction to be known for?
We have a heart-centered approach to our services, setting us apart in the home improvement industry, and make sure that each customer meets with me, #TheRoofingQueen, to go over their needs.

I am the “roofing queen” because we are the best in roofing.

We were recently awarded the Woman Minority Owned Business Enterprise (WMBE) certification with the state of Maryland.
