A conversation with Carol deLaski, CEO

What is deLaski Coaching Services and what do you do?

deLaski Coaching Services develops great leaders through executive coaching and team building programs. Specializing in strengths development, I grow personal and team talents, while providing strategies to better manage areas of weakness. My clients report greater self-confidence as they become consistent, high achievers – through being more of themselves.

As a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and the author of a coaching book, I coach individuals and teams, facilitate workshops, and speak at a variety of conferences. I am honored to continually provide Executive Coaching for multiple Federal Agencies to develop stronger leaders within our government.

Tell us your business origin story.

Human development has always fascinated me. My passion to encourage and support growth has been a foundational component in each phase of my career whether I worked with young children, youth, or adults. Coaching and teaching are the best use of my God-given talents which makes my work a calling and a purpose.

To become a coach, I completed a yearlong program endorsed by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) in 2008. This in-depth program honed my natural talents of listening, supporting, guiding, and teaching others with safety, non-judgment, and grace. Upon completion of the program, I tackled a rigorous criterion to achieve the rank of PCC (professional certified coach) in 2014. I’ve been coaching, teaching customized strengths courses, designing/leading retreats, and encouraging the development of others since then!

In time, I observed (and experienced) that the most impactful life lessons are often learned through adversity. This observation led me to author a coaching book, Lost and Found: Discovering Strength in Love and Faith, to guide others who may feel somewhat adrift, slightly off-track, or completely lost.

What do you like most about being a business owner in Frederick?

I appreciate the strong sense of community in Frederick where people are genuinely caring and supportive. I want my business to be a positive contributor to the overall well-being of our city and county.

Why did you join the Chamber and how has it benefited your business?

I joined the Chamber to give back to our community while creating better connections with other business owners. Since I value growth, it is a perfect fit for me to be part of an organization whose purpose is to develop businesses.

Through my Chamber membership I have met great people, and have served our community in meaningful ways. It is the relationships that I’ve formed which benefit my business most. I believe it is important to belong to a caring organization that does good work.

What do you want your business to be known for?

Positive Growth. I want my passion and expertise in personal and team development to encourage and promote confidence in the people of Frederick, and beyond.

Share some of your community involvement efforts.

I have volunteered my services to many area non-profits over the past 15 years, such as Women-to-Women Mentoring, Faith House, Wholistic Woman Retreats, and multiple churches.

I was one of the original members of the Chamber’s Women-in-Business Committee. It has been an honor to volunteer alongside other dedicated women to create connectional programs, especially SHE Week. I am an Alumni of Leadership Frederick County (class of 2022).

I am a regular sponsor and golfer in the annual Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament in memory of Lori Shipley.

Is there anything else you’d like the Chamber membership to know?
