Tell us your story and how Advantage Technology started.
Beginning as a custom computer shop in a spare bedroom in Charleston, WV twenty-one years ago, Advantage has quickly grown into one of the largest full-service IT integrators in the United States. That growth can be attributed to the way we enable our clients, through technology, to grow their businesses. Their continued success is our success. We now service over 850 professional companies and organizations in eighteen states throughout America, and even Canada. Our founder and President, Richie Wilbur, has recently moved his life and his family to downtown Frederick, and sees this community as the launchpad for a second phase of growth for Advantage.
What do you like most about being a business in Frederick?
The sense of community here is extraordinary. Frederick has a strong, supportive network of fellow business owners, customers, and local organizations that genuinely care about the success of local businesses. This sense of camaraderie creates a unique and welcoming atmosphere that’s conducive to growth and collaboration. Our company’s warm reception in this new home has been nothing short of remarkable.
Why did you join the Chamber?
How better to harness the power of Frederick’s singularly collaborative business community than to join and actively participate in the Chamber of Commerce? The opportunities to network, get involved in the community, learn about and take advantage of resources and programs available, to build credibility and exposure in a new and exciting market. The list goes on.
How has being a member of the Chamber benefited your business?
Aside from the cut-and-dry business we have gained both directly and indirectly from fellow Chamber Members, our membership has led to fantastic partnerships and relationships with other local business and community leaders. That has been invaluable for us here. It has served as a platform to spread word of events we have thrown, an avenue to learn more about the business landscape here in Frederick, and it has gotten our name out in front of folks it may not have otherwise.
What do you want Advantage Technology to be known for?
We want to be known as disruptors in our sector. We pride ourselves on challenging and transforming the traditional ways of approaching and utilizing technology in order to drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage. It involves questioning established norms, exploring new ideas, and leveraging emerging technologies to revolutionize how organizations gather, analyze, and apply information in the IT field.
Share some of your community involvement efforts.
We have folks actively involved in Rotary and other volunteer opportunities, and we also support local nonprofits and organizations such as TechFrederick, CAMI, and the Chamber itself.
