The City of Frederick

Being a member of the Chamber has lots of benefits, which is why we like to highlight one member each month, just as a reminder of how amazing all of our members are! Learn more below about our member and partner, The City of Frederick.

The City of Frederick is a service-based organization that is committed to improving the quality of life for all residents by meeting all of their diverse needs. As the fastest growing city in the region, we aim to provide thoughtful urban planning and development that promotes safe and affordable living, efficient and sustainable services and infrastructure, and employment and cultural opportunities for everyone.

A conversation with Allen Etzler, Communications Manager

Tell us The City’s story.

Founded in 1748, The City of Frederick historically served as a pass-through town connecting destinations both east to west and north to south. Today, more than 275 years later, the City has become one of the fastest growing destinations both for residents and tourists in the state and mid-Atlantic region. We provide a bustling parks and recreation system, a safe and vibrant community, and support the more than 3,600 businesses and 80,000 residents that call Frederick home.

What do you like most about being an organization based in Frederick?

We love having the privilege of serving our 80,000-plus residents every single day. The work of the organization provides a positive impact on the lives of the people who live here and we are able to see that impact each day whether it be through seemingly small acts for residents such as trash collection, or through larger actions like creating and building new park amenities.

Why did The City of Frederick join the Chamber?

The City of Frederick is a proud member and support of our Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. Our membership allows us to actively participate in a collaborative network of businesses, organizations, and community leaders, leveraging resources and insights to promote economic growth, foster local partnerships, and advocate for the collective interests of the city and our residents. We bring the strength of local and municipal government to serve as a partner and advocate of this collection of businesses.

How has being a member of the Chamber benefited The City of Frederick?

The City of Frederick has experienced a number of benefits by being a Chamber member. Perhaps most notably, Frederick receives increased visibility within the local business community, valuable networking opportunities that have led to new partnerships and collaborations, access to educational resources and workshops to enhance professional development and organizational growth, and a stronger collective voice in advocating for favorable economic policies and initiatives that directly impact the city’s businesses and residents.

What do you want The City to be known for?

The City of Frederick strives everyday to be known as the best service delivery organization in the country.

The City is not a for-profit organization, but we strive to provide much-needed support for our nonprofits through our community promotions grants program, which provides direct funding for many of our nonprofit programs, which provide services the City would not be able to do with the same effectiveness or efficiency. We also support and sponsor a number of community events and initiatives through attendance, funding, volunteerism and more.

Do you have any exciting events coming up?

In October, we will be welcoming the National League of Cities and Department of Labor to a site visit as part of The City of Frederick’s involvement in the inaugural Good Jobs Great Cities Academy. Our organization is working with community partners in government, education, nonprofit and business sectors to create a pipeline to the workforce for emerging adults aged 14-24.
