An Interview with Linda Thane-Morgan, Owner
Tell us your story – how did Support Unlimited get its start?
I started my business in 1989, after the birth of my first child. I was very fortunate to have worked for a company that let me work from home while they worked to replace me. From there my husband and I started a full service landscaping business and while he worked on the clients properties I took care of all the office and bookkeeping work. Slowly I added clients (and 2 more children) and then we sold the landscaping business and grew mine!
What do you like most about being a business owner in Frederick?
Frederick is the place where relationships are what drive everything. It isn’t so much who you know but that you are out there, meeting people, serving the community, and being involved. The natural networking opportunities and relationships are so easily established.
Why did you join the Chamber? How has being a member of the Chamber benefited you?
I joined the Chamber in 2006 after attending a few events and being encouraged by Joe McClintock and Dan Schiffman. They knew what I learned, The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce is THE member organization to join and participate in if you want your business to thrive. The Chamber changed my trajectory within a relatively short period of time. Quickly I met people who helped me see what small businesses were in need of and I was able to fill those needs on a very customized level.
In the 18 years I have been a member of The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce I have met key people who not only hired me but also guided me, mentored me, and opened opportunities for both my business and personally I had never dreamed were possible previously. In particular, during the recession in 2008/2009 my relationships with Chamber members are what kept my business afloat and in turn I was able to assist other businesses stay open and relevant as well.Â
What do you want Support Unlimited to be known for?
Service and integrity. I want to be known for providing the services that small business and start ups need as well as sharing my skills through service with our non-profit partners in the community when needed. I strive to offer service to my clients that is needed and of value. I work very hard to not take on more than is needed by the client, guiding them often to see different ways of handling tasks that can improve their bottom line and productivity.
