Meet United Way of Frederick County ((UWFC)
What does the United Way Do?
United Way of Frederick County (UWFC) fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in the Frederick County community.
Specifically, UWFC supports ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households. ALICE households are hardworking families who do not have sufficient income to meet Frederick County’s high cost of living.
UWFC emphasizes its role as a community change organization that works across the county to leverage financial, volunteer and advocacy resources to improve people’s lives.
Ho does UWFC support local?
Though part of a strong national network, United Way of Frederick County is autonomous, independent, and local.
Its leaders and supporters live in Frederick County and have a vested interest in making it the very best place to live, work, and raise families. United Way of Frederick County strives to be a model of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and programs proudly reflect the Frederick County community, its many faces, cultures, and walks of life without regard to social or economic status, gender, gender identification, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, and physical or mental disabilities.
Through programs and grants, United Way of Frederick County yields nearly $3 million annually in community impact that helps children, adults and families thrive.
Whether it’s through the Prosperity Savings Accounts program, free tax preparation, budget coaching, or financial education, the Prosperity Center helps families and individuals obtain the knowledge and resources they need to achieve financial stability.
UWFC collaborates with business, government and community groups to identify and advocate for solutions that address underlying issues that negatively impact the Frederick County community, and especially ALICE families. Learn more: https://www.unitedwayfrederick.org/challenge.
How can people support UWFC and your programs?

The Volunteer Center at United Way of Frederick County is a full-scale volunteer deployment program accounting for tens of thousands of volunteer hours annually. Each volunteer project is designed to support ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households or improve the Frederick County community. Projects range from skilled volunteers in the VITA (Volunteers in Tax Assistance) program, to Stuff the Bus school supply drive, to Day of Action, as well as Summer Serve and a wide variety of business volunteer matching partnerships.
Employers can also start a Workplace Campaign and give their organization the opportunity to play a direct role in improving the lives of our neighbors.
It’s time to Stuff the Bus
United Way’s annual Stuff the Bus school supply began on Tuesday, July 6 and will conclude on Wednesday, August 4.
This year, we are continuing our partnership with Frederick County Public Schools and the community to ensure that every student in Frederick County has the tools and supplies they need to learn.
The public can get involved by bringing school supplies to one of our public drop-offs, donating to our virtual drive, or hosting an in-person or virtual drive: Stuff the Bus.
