Brothers Mike & Ken Tucker started Tuckers A/C, Heating & Plumbing in the spring of 1995 out of Mike’s garage.
Both eager for an opportunity to make a difference in their community, they launched a business that was based on the idea of offering old school customer service. With their combined experience working in refrigeration and finance, they were able to start something poised to succeed and blossom together.
With their focus firmly on providing quality customer service and growing one customer at a time, the Tuckers business has flourished over the past 26 years, expanding from two brothers to 42 vehicles, 62 employees and countless satisfied customers throughout DMV area.
Rick Weldon, President & CEO of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce agrees that customer service is a the pinnacle of Tuckers’ business, “Tuckers Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing came to the Chamber as a result of their decision to locate their headquarters in Frederick, while serving a large customer base in the DC Metro area. The mission of Tuckers Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing is to provide high quality, efficient and professional services in an innovative manner.
Tuckers offers heating, air conditioning, indoor air quality, and plumbing services in the surrounding Frederick, MD area. For those that are interested in having a new AC system installed or their current system replaced, or for those that need maintenance or repair work done on any component in their HVAC system, Tuckers can get the job done right.
“Our goal is to exceed the expectations of our customers and surpass all others in the HVAC and Plumbing industries. Our mission is exemplified by our motto: “Customer Service is your Right and Our Commitment”,” explained Ken Tucker.
“We want to be known for providing a great customer experience and for being a great place to work: we work hard to earn our clients trust. All 62 employees are empowered to make integrity based decisions no matter the situation,” he continued
And their dedication to their customers extends to their employees.
When COVID hit businesses last March, Tuckers made the difficult decision not to lay off any employees, “We decided to use the downtime to train. As business came back we were a better company because of it,” Ken shared.
They realize that investing in their workforce is an investment in their customers.
Growing the Industry & Supporting the Community
With a shortage of workers entering the trades, Tuckers started a program to help make the transition into A/C, heating and plumbing easier for local student interested in pursuing a career in the field.
“We hire high school seniors and give them a taste of HVAC & Plumbing,” explained Ken. “If they decide this field is for them, we sponsor and pay for them to go to trade school in the evening. By the age of 22 they become a journeyman with 4 years of experience and no college debt.”
It’s a great way to not only support their business model, but also help local kids find a career path they’re interested while ensuring sustainability of our local community at the same time.
