Rocky Point Creamery is a cow to cone operation.
As a working dairy farm and on-farm creamery, the milk and cream from their cows is used to make their delicious ice cream right there in the creamery!
Made fresh each week, they offer over 100 flavors throughout the year, using seasonally fresh, local ingredients and products. We make small batches using only the highest quality ingredients, and mix all inclusions by hand to maintain the integrity of the ingredients. They also sell beef, cheese, and milk, all from the cattle on their farm.

Meet Rocky Point Creamery
The History of Rocky Point
The Fry Family has farmed this land since 1883. It all started out with about 10 Holstein cows. Today, the 4th generation milks 125 Holstein and Jersey cows and farms 700 acres surrounding the dairy and creamery.
Farming is a tough business, so the creamery was added in 2012 to help support the farm.
In 2020, we began construction to modify an existing barn to accommodate robotic milkers. Yes, that’s right, we really do have robots milking our cows now! We cannot wait to resume farm tours to show our exciting new technology.
When the ice cream shop was opened, we didn’t know if we’d sell 50 ice cream cones a year or 50,000. Each year we have grown a little more and a little more, and we were very fortunate during the craziness of 2020. We also welcomed our first child in 2020 and are hopeful she will want to continue the dairy legacy (the dairy heir?) here on the farm. It’s a great feeling to hand a customer an ice cream cone and know you had a hand in literally every step of the process of creating that product.
What Makes Rocky Point Unique?
Rocky Point Creamery is a unique farm experience.
We are a Cow to Cone operation, which very few ice cream shops can say. We have a hand in literally every step of the process of getting food to the consumers’ hand. We grow the crops that feed the cows, we raise the cows, we milk the cows, we turn fluid milk into yummy ice cream! We are also very conscious of the ingredients we add to our ice cream, and use extremely high quality inclusions. Our ice cream is considered Super Premium by industry standards, meaning it is at least 14% cream. It is also extremely low overrun, which means that it contains almost zero air. Our ice cream is all creamy, delicious product, not filled with air, which very, very few ice cream makers can say.
Each summer we plant 2 acres of sunflowers as a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The field is wildly popular for both photos and cut flowers. The Creamery is also home to a re-purposed farm equipment playground.
We are committed to farming the land, raising our cattle and making an amazing product in a healthy, responsible manner. We have never used antibiotics or hormones to increase production or increase growth.
We rely on the land to make our living, and therefore give the ground the utmost care and respect. The same care and respect is given to our animals—our cows deserve only the best, and we couldn’t make such great food without them being at their best!
Why do you love farming in Frederick?
Frederick is an amazing community to be a part of! Our county is home to people from all walks of life, and we are fortunate enough to live and work alongside them. Interacting with our diverse customer base and hearing what makes them tick is absolutely fascinating. We are very proud to offer a unique, yummy product and when we see people talking about what we do, it is the best feeling.
The number of partnerships we have made with other businesses in Frederick is really special. Our community knows the value of small businesses and keeping it local. We can’t believe the amount of love for local that we’ve seen during the pandemic. It’s truly remarkable.
What’s the “Must Try” ice cream flavor in the creamery?
One of our most popular flavors is called Sweet Cream. It is literally just the milk and cream from our cows– no vanilla, no sugar, no other flavors or ingredients. It is the embodiment of what we do and it makes us smile inside when we scoop it because it’s so rewarding to give someone an ice cream cone and know you had a hand in every single step of it being created.
What exciting things do you have in store this year?
We plant 2 acres of sunflowers and allow the public to take photos and cut flowers for a small donation. 100% of donations go directly to St. Jude’s, and we are hoping to beat our 2020 record donation of $9000!
We host a number of local food trucks on the weekends and have several Goat Yoga classes being hosted at the farm this summer. We are excited to get back to new collaborations with other local businesses for some in-person classes or experiences at the Creamery and farm!
