SOAR, Supporting Older Adults through Resources, Inc.

SOAR’s mission is to provide assistance to older adults in Frederick County to meet their essential needs in a confidential, respectful, and dignified manner. SOAR supports our vulnerable seniors and help them obtain unmet essential needs such as housing assistance, home modifications, physician-ordered medications, transportation, food and in-home support, to name a few. They also assist seniors with connections to services in our community where available, provide resources, support, and education to families and caregivers of seniors in need, and act as a voice that encourages our community to come together to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable older adults.

How you can help: Support their holiday meal and gift deliveries in November and December and provide gift cards to Walmart/CVS/Weis, unscented hand lotion, word puzzle books, calendars, soft lap blanket, socks, and candy.

Partners in Care

Partners In Care is a private non-profit organization offering programs and services that support the independence of older adults in our communities. We accomplish this through a unique culture of service exchange where members volunteer their time and talents to help each other with neighborly services such as transportation, handyman repairs, person-centered support, and social engagement. In exchange, members ask for assistance when needed.

How you can help: Volunteers are the backbone of Partners In Care. They assist in the office; performing administrative tasks and getting volunteers to help with requests. Other volunteers serve on the “front lines” of the organization, offering door-to-door and arm-in-arm rides with their own vehicles to assist elderly members in getting to doctor’s appointments, the senior center, library, hair salon, or anywhere else they want to go. Partners In Care volunteers also assist with neighborly tasks such as providing friendly visits and phone calls to touch base with members; offering referrals and advocacy to other agencies; or helping with light handyman tasks such as pulling weeds, hanging pictures, changing lightbulbs, or tightening a loose table leg. Whatever a member needs, Partners In Care volunteers will do their best to either assist or to refer them to another organization who can help with that specific need.
