5 Things You Need to Know About Generation Connect for Young Professionals
Generation Connect is led by a powerful committee of highly skilled young business professionals.
The Generation Connect Committee is comprised of several young professionals in Frederick. Led by co chairs David Lok, Senior Sales Engineer at Power Comm, and Wesley Leatherman, Business Services Consultant at Frederick County Workforce Services, the committee also includes nine other professionals from a large cross section of industries, including major, locally based non-profits, government agencies, places of higher learning, and financial services.
Everyone is welcome to attend Generation Connect events.
While the primary goal of this committee is to inspire, support, and encourage participation in the Frederick business community by young professionals, we all know the power of experience and happily welcome business professionals of all ages to Generation Connect meetings and events. Those who are young at heart and eager to grow are always welcome to participate in GenConnect events.
Co-chair David Lok agrees and notes that the supportive, welcoming atmosphere is part of what makes being a part of the committee great, “This is a great committee that reaches out to individuals that want to help grow, connect and inspire young at heart professionals.”
Generation Connect is a great way to learn about how the Chamber can help you.
We consider GenConnect our gateway committee–it allows those new to the business community to get involved in The Chamber in a meaningful way.
It’s easy to get intimidated by the idea of joining a large business membership organization, especially early in your career, and that’s where GenConnect comes in. As co-chair David Lok shared this committee, “reaches young professionals that are intimidated by normal Chamber events and provides them with a group to be a part of.”
Generation Connect can help you succeed as a young business professional in Frederick County.
Education, support, empowerment, encouragement–these are all things Generation Connect hopes to provide its members. But, many who participate say it’s about the connections. As co-chair Wesley Leatherman states, “The committee is always looking for ways to mentor others and giving back to the community. We use our networks to connect young professionals to businesses, mentors, and/or others who can help them achieve their goals.”
One of the most exciting parts about participating in a Chamber program like Generation Connect is the support committee members and program participants receive from the Chamber. As Wesley Leatherman explains, “I have made endless amounts of connections since I joined Generation Connect. The Chamber does a great job of shedding light on the committee and its members which translates to connections. That means everything in a world where it’s not about who you know but who knows you.”
