Generation Connect Bring a Broom Event
Please join Generation Connect as we join forces with Downtown Frederick Partnership and give Downtown Frederick a good spring cleaning!  Use the special registration link and be part of the Generation Connect team. Support the eighth annual Bring a Broom Saturday on Saturday, April 27, 2019! Community members are asked to bring their brooms and help Downtown Frederick get ready for spring. Bring a Broom Saturday is brought to you by Downtown Frederick Partnership.On the day of the event, register at the Partnership office (19 E Church St) between 8:30 and 9AM and receive your clean up assignment. Breakfast snacks, coffee and water will be available during registration. Clean up continues from 9 – 11:30AM, followed by a pizza party for volunteers!

Advanced Hand Lettering Workshop
Ready to move past the basics of Hand-Lettering? AIGA Blue Ridge has invited Amy Latta back to teach advanced techniques. Amy will be covering design composition, flourishes, bounce lettering, and more. We’re holding two classes with just 16 people each, so sign up today. You’ll also have an opportunity to purchase Amy’s new book, Hand Lettering for Laughter: Gorgeous Art with a Hilarious Twist as part of your ticket price (or you can purchase any of Amy’s books at the workshop.) We’re keeping the class sizes small, so Amy can give more personalized attention to her students. Please bring a picture frame (8×10 or smaller) to finish your project and show it off to friends and family!

Family Workshop: Create a Seed Starter
Get a garden started with our egg carton seed starter workshop! This short beginner’s gardening workshop will teach you the basics of starting a seed and how to care for it! Perfect for little hands and first time gardeners. Our family workshops are held open-house style. This craft takes about half an hour to complete, so feel free to stop by any time during the session. Adequate supervision of children is required.

Spring Youth Fishing Rodeo at Fountain Rock Park
Come join us for our Spring Youth Fishing Rodeo! Ages 3-15 can cast a line in Fountain Rock Pond, in hopes to catch the biggest or most fish! A limited number of fishing rods will be available for use. Bait will be provided. Fishing license not required for those ages 3-15.

Celebrate our agricultural heritage. Hayrides, exhibits, demonstrations, animals, children’s hand-on activities and games. Saturday morning tractor pull. Sun. afternoon kiddie pedal pull. Free; fees for food, hayrides, crafts, and games.

Dementia Live
Dementia Live offers a unique inside-out understanding of dementia and aging. Participants will gain a heightened awareness of the challenges faced by those who live with dementia, and learn valuable tips and tools to improve communication and care. Using specialized gear in a safe, experiential setting, Dementia Live™ provides participants with a real-life simulation of what it might be like to live with dementia. Participants gain greater understanding which can lead to becoming a more sensitive care partner. Space is limited. Preregistration and screening is required. Expert Panel: Current and Future Health of the Monocacy River
An expert panel discussion on “Current and Future Health of the Monocacy.” With ongoing, community-wide interest in the Monocacy River, experts will discuss water quality, habitats, living resources, pollutants and land use around the Monocacy. The panelists include: Vicki Blazer, with the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Fish Health Laboratory Tim Goodfellow, principal planner with the Frederick County Division of Planning and Permitting Josh Henesy, with the Department of Natural Resources Freshwater Fisheries Program Michael Kashiwagi, with the Department of Natural Resources Monitoring and Biological Stream Survey Shannon Moore, manager of the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Resources within the Office of the County Executive at the Frederick government Kevin Sellner, Ph.D., senior scholar in Hood’s CCWS Andy Wilson, associate professor of environmental studies and an ornithologist at Gettysburg College.

“Unearthing Historical Memory from Franco’s Mausoleum” Joan Pinyol Joan Pinyol, a Catalan writer from Barcelona, will present his latest book “Avi, et trauré d’aquí!” or “Grandpa, I will take you out from there!” This book is Pinyol’s 19th, and it is based on his life.

WCHS Farm to Table Dinner
Explore Maryland’s rich culinary heritage at our one of a kind farm to table dinners! Each unique dinner sources its ingredients from some of the area’s premiere farms, bakeries, and dairies, crafted by expert local chefs. Each course is paired with a complementary wine. Enjoy your meal in the intimate setting of the beautiful Miller House Gardens as we pair local history and local dining for the summer’s finest dining experience. Each of our farm to table dinners offers several courses: a sharable appetizer platter, a light first entree or salad, a main entree, and dessert. The courses are paired with your choice of wine or beer. We work to provide alternatives for those with food allergies and sensitivities, so please notify the staff of any food requirements at the time when you purchase your tickets. Reservations are required. Past menus have featured: Artisan bread and cheese platters, Maryland crabs, Local pork and chicken, and handmade desserts. Full menu to be released at the end of April.
Goodwill’s Golden Gala
Sure to be the fashion event of the season, SECOND RUNWAY will feature a red carpet entrance, an on-site Goodwill Pop-Up Shop, a chance to bid on fabulous auction items, gourmet food and spirits from local businesses, music, and a high-energy runway fashion show, including models and stylists from the community. This year’s theme, the Golden Gala, will celebrate Goodwill’s 50 years of service to Frederick and Carroll Counties and will benefit our new Veteran Services program. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at New Spire Stages VIP Cocktail Hour and Early Access Shopping: 6:00-7:00pm General Admission: 7:00-9:30pm Sponsorship opportunities available.

Murder Mystery Dinner
Whodunnit for Hire and Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant have teamed up to bring you “Gag Me With A Spoon. She’s Dead.” the 1980s themed murder mystery party. The event is an interactive comedy. Guests will be asked to search for clues and interrogate suspects to solve whodunnit. Age 21+.
